“My only critique is the bathroom was very smelly. We enjoyed the space and having access to lots of fire pits with a creek running behind our camp site. We had a great time and went into Ojai for wine tasting after some hiking. ”

Holiday Group Campground sits at about 2,120 feet at the bottom of Live Oak Canyon, shaded by mature trees with Matilija Creek running close enough that several sites back onto the water. The setting leans toward riverine oak and riparian vegetation; a short loop, the Wheeler Gorge Nature Trail, begins nearby and threads along the creekbanks to a hillside viewpoint where spring wildflowers commonly bloom. For people who want more challenge, the Ortega Trail a 10-mile route used by off-road vehicles climbs steep, rocky terrain to a ridgetop and is best left to experienced riders. The creek offers a small swimming hole and occasional trout for anglers, though it's not stocked and kayaking or canoeing are not recommended because of the stream's character. The campground provides a single, large group site that accepts both RVs and tents and is sized to hold up to 50 people with parking for 10 vehicles in the adjacent lot. Vault toilets are on site but there is no potable water, so visitors should arrive with a supply of drinking water; campfires are permitted and there are on-site grills, though visitors are asked to use caution with propane or gas stoves. The site is open year-round as a quick escape from city life and sits roughly 15 miles north of Ojai and about 20 miles from Ventura, reachable via Highway 33; fees for additional people or vehicles are $10.00 per person or vehicle per day and extra vehicle and person fees will be charged at the facility. Activities in the surrounding Los Padres National Forest include hiking, biking, horseback riding, off-highway vehicle use, picnicking and swimming, making the campground a practical base for a range of outdoor pursuits.
