“Love this group site. We have been using this for an annual event for over 10 years. We have transitioned from tents into most of us bringing trailers or RVs. The camp hosts are always wonderful!”
“Beautiful area for a group site. Host was very good and checked in to see if we needed anything. We will be back. Would be great if lime or another smell control agent could be put in vault toilets'. they were clean but stinky!!”

O'Leary Group Site sits on a broad bed of soft, flat volcanic cinders amid ponderosa pines about 13 miles north of Flagstaff, a position that gives the three group loops clear views of dark cinder cones and open grassy meadows that bloom with wildflowers in spring and early summer. Built in 2001 and named for nearby O'Leary Peak, the campground was planned for large gatherings: there are three group campsites in total, and all three accommodate both RVs and tents. The east and north loops each take up to 50 people, while the west loop can host up to 75. Amenities geared to groups include picnic shelters, tables and grills, electrical service, trash collection and drinking water, plus plenty of level ground for pitching multiple tents. To reach the site drive north from Flagstaff on Highway 89 to the Sunset Crater National Monument entrance and follow a short forest-road spur (Forest Road 545a) to the campground turnoff just before Bonito Campground. Recreation is dominated by exploration of nearby national monuments and the surrounding Coconino National Forest. Sunset Crater Volcano and Wupatki National Monuments have visitor centers and both self-guided and ranger-led tours that explain the area's volcanic landscapes and ancient Pueblo masonry (Wupatki's four-story pueblo dates to about A.D. 1120). For hikers, the route to O'Leary Lookout Tower is a notable day outing: roughly 4.9 miles one way on an old forest road with a steady, steep climb that opens out to wide views of Flagstaff, the San Francisco Peaks and the Painted Desert carved by the Little Colorado River. Beyond the monuments, the forest offers a broad range of activities from auto touring, biking and horseback riding to fishing, OHV use, winter sports and wildlife viewing and nearby Flagstaff provides shopping and restaurants. For facility-specific information, including any fees or reservation details, call the campground number at (928) 774-9671.
