“This campground is very peaceful. The sites are paved and level and VERY spacious. Well maintained and beautiful. I highly recommend.”
“This is a nice, clean, well kept place. Weather was great in early October when I visited. Sites are decently spaced, but there is line of sight between most of them.”

BONITO CAMPGROUND

Bonito Campground sits at about 6,900 feet on a high desert plain 18 miles northeast of Flagstaff, immediately west of the Sunset Crater National Monument entrance station. The campground is set among tall Ponderosa pines that shade campsites and spill down nearby ravines, a calm contrast to the scoured black of the Bonito Lava Flow that crossed this landscape roughly 900 years ago. From your site you can easily visit the Sunset Crater and Wupatki visitor centers to learn the area's volcanic and human history, wander the stone ruins at Wupatki, or drive into Flagstaff for its historic downtown; Walnut Canyon National Monument is also close enough for a daytime outing. There are 43 campsites that accommodate both RVs and tents, including one ADA-accessible site, and the campground provides the basics you'll need for a comfortable stay: picnic tables, metal fire rings with cooking grills at each site, paved roads and spurs, drinking water, and flush toilets. A mix of sites is available by reservation and on a first-come, first-served basis; pets are allowed but must be kept on a leash or otherwise restrained. Popular activities immediately around Bonito include hiking, sightseeing, and wildlife viewing, while the broader Coconino National Forest offers auto touring, biking, climbing, fishing, horseback riding, OHV use, interpretive programs, winter sports and more. For facility-specific questions call (928) 774-9671.
