“Great little campsite. The hosts were on top of it…very clean/well kept. They were also very nice folks. Would be nice to have availability of water for rv tank but otherwise great. We will happily return.”
“The campground hosts are unreasonable tyrants that impose ridiculous rules just because they think they have authority over others. They also claim that asking questions is equitable to being 'rude'.”

Potato Patch Campground sits at about 7,200 feet between Mingus Mountain and the Woodchute Wilderness, surrounded by a stand of ponderosa pines that keeps summer days noticeably cooler than the valley below. The campground has 40 sites total; each non-electric site offers a level tent pad, a picnic table, paved parking and an elevated fire ring with grill, while accessible sites include an additional pedestal grill. Loop B contains 12 sites with 30-amp electrical hookups where tents are not permitted, so plan accordingly if you want to pitch a tent. Facilities include three composting toilets, potable water (note: not for filling RV tanks), and regular garbage service. The road up to the summit on Highway 89A is steep and winding with tight hairpin turns through Jerome, and the turnoff to Potato Patch is on Forest Road 106 across from the Summit Picnic Area; reservations can be made through the availability button or by calling 1 (877) 444-6777, and general campground questions go to the Verde Ranger District at 1 (928) 567-4121. See the site map under photos for the loop layout before you arrive. Outdoor opportunities are immediate and varied: Yeager Canyon Trail #28 and Woodchute Trail #102 are within striking distance for anyone wanting a moderate hike into the 5,923-acre Woodchute Wilderness and the views from Woodchute Mountain, and a segment of the Great Western Trail runs adjacent to the campground. Mingus Lake, just across Highway 89A, is stocked for fishing, while the Verde River in the valley below provides rafting, kayaking and birding options. If you have off-highway vehicles, Hayfield Draw OHV Area and other scenic drives are a short drive away; nearby towns add cultural and practical variety, with Jerome's historic shops and museums a steep descent away, Tuzigoot National Monument and the historic towns of Clarkdale and Cottonwood about nine miles down the road, and larger services in Prescott and Prescott Valley roughly 20 miles from the site. More broadly, Prescott National Forest offers boating, horse camping and riding, picnicking, visitor centers and even overnight cabins or fire lookout experiences elsewhere in the forest, so Potato Patch makes a quiet, high-elevation base for a wide range of day trips.
