Grant River Campground sits along the Upper Mississippi's banks just south of Potosi, in an area known locally as the "Catfish Capital of Wisconsin." The campground is a modern, full-service facility with 72 sites in total 62 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents and 10 tent-only sites and offers conveniences such as showers, drinking water and flush toilets. Families and small groups will find a picnic shelter and playgrounds for gatherings, plus a boat ramp that gives direct river access; note that the ramp can be difficult for larger vessels when water levels drop and when aquatic vegetation becomes thick. The river here is a productive fishery: channel catfish draw many anglers, and bluegill, walleye, crappie, northern pike and bass are also commonly caught. Local anglers often try their luck in spring, "before the rice field grows up," when fishing conditions are frequently best. The campground is part of the broader Mississippi River Pools 11 22 recreation area, where hiking and biking trails, interpretive programs and winter eagle-watching are seasonal highlights along the shoreline. Boating, camping, fishing, picnicking, wildlife viewing and water sports are all on the menu, and nearby visitor services and attractions are within easy driving distance Potosi Brewing Company Restaurant & Museum sits about 2 miles away, Lock and Dam No. 11 and the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium are roughly 19 20 miles, and Galena's historic shops and dining are about 28 miles. Access to Grant River Campground is from River Lane off WI-133, roughly two miles south of Potosi; for facility-specific questions call (563) 582-0881.
