“Wonderful campground and the main bathrooms offed private showers. ”
“I was orginally going to site 11, all the sites on that side had a drop off. Our class c would have bottomed out if we tried to pull into that site. I was able to book us into site 21, which worked out great. ”

BLANDING LANDING RECREATION AREA

Blanding Landing sits on the east bank of the upper Mississippi in a quiet river valley about 13 miles south of Galena, Illinois. The approach from Highway 20 takes you west on Blackjack Road follow the posted signs and avoid Diggin Hill Road through winding country lanes that pass the remnant hills left where Ice Age glaciers diverted around northwest Illinois. The campground fronts on backwater channels of the Mississippi, framed by hardwoods that shade grassy sites and draw migrating and wintering birds; the broader Mississippi River Pools 11 22 project is known for eagle watching in the winter and hosts interpretive programs and hiking trails along the shoreline. The town of Galena, with most of its historic buildings listed on the National Register, is a short drive away if you want shops, restaurants, or a step into 19th-century mining history the area's mineral deposits sparked the nation's first mineral rush before California's Gold Rush. There are 37 campsites at Blanding Landing, and each site is configured to serve both RV and tent campers: pads are grass, and most sites offer electrical hookups. On-site amenities include showers and a playground, and hardwood trees provide natural shade over many spots. Anglers come for the channel catfish that dominate local catches, with bluegill, walleye, crappie and northern pike also found in the river and backwaters; boating and picnicking are commonly enjoyed here and hunting is listed as an activity in the area. For park-level services you'll find boat ramps, picnic shelters and other recreation concessions throughout the Pools 11 22 project, along with biking and wildlife-viewing opportunities. Because fees, reservation windows and seasonal access can vary, contact the campground directly at (563) 582-0881 for the most up-to-date information before you go.
