“Only stayed one night in my easy farther north, but thought my site a good site (though it was quite awkward to back into; a nearby camper said it's the hardest of the loop to get into). The facilities were a plus with flush toilet & shower.”
“We struggled locating campground using Google Maps. Should have noted directions on recreation.gov for reservation. Campground is very secluded -- good spot for a multi-day reservation.”
“We absolutely love this place! Always clean and campsites are not too close, so there is privacy. ”

CHEQUAMEGON-NICOLET NATIONAL FOREST
Open in Google Maps ↗
Chippewa Campground sits at about 1,020 feet on the eastern shore of the 2,714-acre Chequamegon Waters Flowage, shaded by a mixed canopy of hardwoods and pines and laid out to serve both tent and RV campers. The campground contains 73 campsites in total, all configured to accommodate both RVs and tents, and is organized into several loops notably Beaver (29 sites), Hardwoods (10 sites) and Rustic (17 sites) with the remaining sites in additional loops nearby. On the water side, anglers will find a boat ramp and a fish-cleaning station near the campground entrance, and fishing for largemouth bass, northern pike and bluegill is a common draw; there's also a small beach, a playground for children and a short walking trail that links loops within the campground. Beyond the shoreline, the 20-mile Perkinstown Motorized Trail begins close enough for day trips; it's a two-way OHV/motorcycle route that crosses rolling woodlands and wetlands and is also used for snowmobiling in winter, so the area sees year-round recreational use across different seasons. Practical amenities are straightforward and campground-focused: each site has a picnic table and a campfire ring with grill, roads throughout the campground are paved, drinking water is distributed across the site, and a dump station plus an RV fill-up are located near the entrance. Electric hookups are available at sites 31 49; accessible flush toilets and coin or free showers serve sites 1 60, while the higher-numbered sites (61 73) are served by accessible vault toilets. Because management details such as fees and reservation windows can change, check the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest website or the Forest Service recreation pages for the latest information on reservations, seasonal openings and any permits required; the campground is reached by heading north from Medford on State Highway 13 and connecting via County M to Forest Road 1417.
