“This was a great campground! Our site was clean and we loved the location to so many beaches and access to trails. Only negatives were some campers had fires when there was a fire ban and no hand soap in the bathroom though we did have our own. ”

Kalaloch Campground sits on a high bluff along Highway 101 on the southwest coast of the Olympic Peninsula, about 34 miles south of Forks and 73 miles north of Aberdeen. The facility contains 144 campsites each configured to accept both RVs and tents and also includes one group site and four accessible sites. Sites are set among a rain-forest fringe that receives the region's heavy annual precipitation; many sites look out over the Pacific, while others are sheltered under coastal forest. Every campsite has a picnic table and a campfire ring; food lockers and drinking water are available at loop restrooms. There are no electrical or water hookups, and the campground's dump station is available for a $10 fee ($5 with a Senior or Access Pass), a charge separate from the camping fee. The nearest public showers are 28 miles away at Bogachiel State Park, and firewood and basic supplies can be bought nearby at Kalaloch Mercantile. Kalaloch is as much a shoreline destination as a campground: a network of trails and a short stair descent about 40 feet lead from the lodge and campground down to several beaches, tide pools and overlooks. The one-mile Kalaloch Creek Nature Trail follows the creek through forest to the ocean, and accessible lookouts at Ruby Beach and Beach 4 provide easy sea views. Birdwatchers regularly spot western gulls, bald eagles and occasionally puffins; tide pools reveal crabs and urchins at low tide and seals, sea otters, dolphins and whales are sometimes seen offshore. Fishing and shellfish harvesting are permitted under state and park regulations. Swimming is possible but carries hazards: large drifting logs commonly wash ashore and rip currents occur, so exercise caution. Reservations are required on the park system from May 23 through September 23, 2024, with sites released in staggered blocks by loop A and B are released six months in advance (note A14, A16, A18 and A19 are currently not reservable due to bluff erosion), C and D two weeks out (D loop has experienced bluff erosion and some sites may be closed), and E and F four days in advance. Outside the reservation season the campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis; some loops close in winter (November April) but camping remains possible in open areas.
