“The campground was quiet and beautiful. We booked a group site without knowing it, because it was the last option available. Beware that the sites that are more expensive are likely group sites!”
“Good campground. Bathroom was a tough spot.”

Big Creek Campground sits in a forest of Douglas fir, western hemlock, alder and maple on the northern edge of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, about 6 miles from the Nisqually entrance to Mount Rainier National Park and roughly 21 miles from the Paradise visitor center. The 29 campsites form a single loop road with a handful of sites positioned along Big Creek itself; heavy vegetation between sites gives a sense of separation, though several sites have rocks or dense ground cover that can make tenting awkward. The campground is open seasonally from mid-May through late September and is often used as a quieter alternative to the more crowded Mount Rainier campgrounds. Access is via Forest Road 52 from Ashford (about a five-mile drive), but note the campground requires vehicles with a relatively tight turning radius and limits maximum vehicle length to 22 feet. Facilities are basic but functional: every site is set up for both tents and RVs and includes a picnic table, pedestal grill and fire pit; some parking spurs are paved while others are mossy native dirt. Drinking water is available, vault toilets are provided, and there are no hot showers onsite; gray-water disposal points are located throughout the campground. Anglers can fish for brook trout in Big Creek, and the Osborne Mountain Trail begins at the campground a steep, scenic route that is open to hikers, horseback riders, mountain bikers and dirt bikes. Practicalities to plan for: an extra vehicle fee is $8, cancellations up to two days before arrival incur a $10 fee, cancellations the day before or day of arrival incur a $10 service fee plus forfeiture of the first night, one-night cancellations forfeit the full amount, and no-shows are assessed a $20 service fee plus loss of the first night; refund requests must be submitted through your Recreation.gov profile within seven days after your reservation ends. Staffing is limited; for general information call (360) 686-3008.
