“Peaceful and quiet. Beautiful surroundings. Sections of the long trail reachable within a short driving range. Coverage is scarce. Water pump has not been working throughout the season. ”

Moosalamoo Campground sits at the base of Mount Moosalamoo beside Voter Brook and feels more like a small, well-tended neighborhood in the woods than a commercial park. There are 19 campsites in all (one of them a host site), and each site is equipped with a picnic table and a metal fire ring with grill; sites are designated for both tent and limited RV camping. The loop opens onto a large mowed grass field that's especially useful for groups and children who want space to play away from the campsites, and the individual sites are set among sugar maple, American beech, yellow birch and an understory of ferns and wildflowers that provide shade and a sense of privacy. Basic services are provided on site: potable water is available from a hand pump and there are six accessible vault toilets spread through the campground. Sites are offered on a first-come, first-served basis, so plan accordingly and check the Forest Service for current fees, reservation options, and seasonal openings. The campground is a gateway to the larger Moosalamoo National Recreation Area, a 16,000-acre landscape with over 70 miles of maintained trails, mountain vistas, waterfalls, lakes and streams. Two hiking trails Mt. Moosalamoo and Voter Brook tie directly into the campground loop, and less than a mile down the road the Voter Brook Overlook has a picnic area and an accessible path to a western-facing vista. Trailheads nearby support hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding; the broader area also offers fishing, swimming, wildlife viewing, winter sports and auto touring. Practical logistics are straightforward: reach the area from Route 125 via Forest Roads 32 and 24 (the campground entrance is just off FR 24), with Ripton about four miles away for limited supplies and Middlebury or Brandon roughly 12 miles for more shopping and dining. If you rely on specific services or need current trail conditions, check the Green Mountain & Finger Lakes National Forests website or contact the local ranger district before you go.
