Sandy Creek Park sits on the southeast shore of B.A. Steinhagen Lake in the East Texas Pineywoods, the stretch of pine uplands and bottomland hardwoods that separates the towns of Jasper and Woodville. The setting is a mix of pines and hardwoods with backwater sloughs and open lake water, so mornings often bring waterfowl and songbirds on the sloughs and deer, foxes and squirrels in the forested edges. Anglers will find largemouth bass, catfish and crappie in the lake, and several fishing docks and public boat ramps within the park make early-morning casts easy; boat rentals are also available on the lake. If you prefer paddling, the nearby Walnut Slough, Sandy Creek and Neches Paddling Trails offer routes from about 3 to 16 miles that thread backwater channels, open lake and stretches of the Neches River, and the larger Angelina-Neches/Dam B Wildlife Management Area to the north provides mature cypress and oak stands for longer hikes, wildlife viewing and seasonal hunting. The campground is open year-round and has 76 campsites in total: 67 sites are set up for both RVs and tents, while 9 are tent-only, and many sites (71) include water and electric hookups. Practical amenities include flush and pit toilets, showers and a dump station, plus a group day-use picnic shelter for gatherings. On-site recreation is straightforward and family-friendly a road system suitable for 3 5 mile family bike rides, a children's playground and a volleyball court and interpretive or environmental-education opportunities are part of the broader Steinhagen Lake area programming. Note the cancellation policy before you book: no refunds are given at the field location, and if you cancel a campsite reservation within 14 days of your scheduled arrival you will be charged a $10 service fee and forfeit the first night's use fee. To reach Sandy Creek from Jasper, head roughly 10 miles west on US-190 and then a short drive south and west on county roads to the lake's southeast side; signs guide you into the park.
