“Very nice, clean park. Good spacing between sites make for a very fun time setting outside watching the sun come up from out trailer. Will definitely come back again.”
“We really like this campground. Spacing is great for most sites and the views of the lake, even from off lake sites, is stunning. The only downside is there's lots of air traffic going into DFW that can be noisy at times.”

Hickory Creek Campground sits along the Hickory Creek arm of Lewisville Lake, a nearly 30,000-acre reservoir formed from the Elm Fork of the Trinity River just north of Dallas. The shoreline here is oriented toward open water rather than clear depths visibility in the lake is limited, but the wide expanse makes room for powerboats, sailing, and watersports, and anglers come for steady fishing through the warm months. Trails thread the broader Lewisville Lake area about 50 miles of natural-surface and paved routes so hikers and bikers can push out from the campground into varied terrain, while photographers and birders will find plenty to watch at dusk and dawn when migrating and resident waterfowl move along the marshy edges. The lake-side park also funnels visitors toward other nearby recreational options around the lake: public golf courses, horseback-riding areas, and suburban services a short drive from the campground. Downtown Dallas is roughly 35 miles away, making day trips into the city feasible while allowing you to return to the lake's quieter shoreline. The campground itself contains 117 total campsites: 116 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents, plus 1 tent-only site. Sites are configured to support overnight stays with electrical hookups and the campground provides visitor conveniences such as hot showers, a dump station, and an on-site boat ramp for launching watercraft. Primitive walk-in tent sites are not offered at this location. Expect the campground to be busiest in summer when water temperatures rise and anglers and boaters increase numbers on the lake; check the park's reservation system and fee schedule before you go, as seasonal demand affects availability. Access is straightforward from the Dallas area via routes that serve the northern suburbs surrounding Lewisville Lake, and once you arrive the combination of accessible lake access, trail connections, and basic campground services makes Hickory Creek a practical base for both day-long water activities and multi-night stays.
