Joshua K ★ 3 · Dec 2023We stay here once a year and it's a pretty good place. The lake is nowhere near the campground though and the last trip the bathroom ran out of TP and they never came in to take out the trash.

San Pedro Group Campground is a single, private group site on the U.S. Mexico border within Amistad National Recreation Area, designed to accommodate up to 75 people in both RVs and tents. The site is primitive but well laid out for groups: a large covered pavilion provides a sheltered gathering space, there's a campfire ring with benches for evening conversation, a permanent pedestal grill and picnic table for meals, and a vault toilet on site. There is no potable water at the site, so all drinking and cooking water must be brought in; leashed pets are welcome. Because there is only one campsite here, groups have exclusive use when reserved, but expect basic, self-sufficient camping rather than campground services such as hookups or potable water. The campground sits within a larger recreation area shaped by the confluence of the Rio Grande, Devils, and Pecos Rivers and the reservoir created by Amistad Dam in 1969, so water-based activities are the main draw of the park: boating, fishing (some of the best bass fishing in the region), diving, waterskiing, paddling, and swimming are available across Lake Amistad where boat ramps and other support facilities are provided elsewhere in the park. On land you'll find hiking, wildlife viewing, hunting in designated zones, and numerous rock art and archaeological sites to explore amid rugged canyon scenery and desert plant communities. For practical details such as fees, reservations, seasonal access and launch locations, contact the park headquarters in Del Rio, Texas, which administers the recreation area and can advise on current regulations and any restrictions that might affect group use.
