277 North Group Campground sits inside Amistad National Recreation Area along the United States Mexico border, the broad reservoir formed in 1969 where the Rio Grande, Devils, and Pecos Rivers meet. The recreation area spreads across more than 57,000 acres of federally owned land that alternates between rugged canyon walls, riparian corridors and desert plant communities; visitors come for the reservoir's clear stretches and springs, well-regarded bass fishing, and a number of rock-art and archaeological sites scattered through the canyons. Across the park you'll find boat ramps, picnic areas and hiking trails supporting a wide range of activities boating, paddling, scuba diving, waterskiing, swimming, fishing, hunting, hiking and wildlife viewing and the long, dark skies make this a popular spot for evening stargazing. Park headquarters is in Del Rio, Texas; check there or on the park website for the latest information about fees, reservations and seasonal access. The group campground itself is a single, private primitive site (total campsites: 1) designed to hold up to 35 people and is listed as accommodating both RVs and tents. The space centers on a large pavilion and includes a vault toilet, an outdoor campfire ring, a pedestal grill and a picnic table; there is no potable water at the site, so you must bring your own. Pets are welcome but must be kept on leash. Because the site is primitive, plan for minimal services and make arrangements ahead of time contact Amistad NRA headquarters in Del Rio to confirm reservations, permitted group sizes, current fees and any other access requirements before you arrive.
