Lakeside Campground sits on the northern shore of Hords Creek Lake, a small but pleasant reservoir set among gently rolling central Texas hills dotted with live oaks. The campground is part of a larger two-sided park around the lake and offers a total of 93 campsites: 87 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents and 6 tent-only sites. The Lakeside area itself reports more than 50 sites with water and electric hookups and several sites with sewer connections; six sites include screened shelters to help on windy days and there are premium options elsewhere around the lake that feature screened-in picnic tables, double sites and a few 50-amp hookups. Scattered boat ramps, fishing piers and public showers make it straightforward to get on the water or rinse off after a day of activity, and picnic shelters and a playground provide simple day-use comforts without having to return to your campsite. The lake is a working fishing and water-sports spot anglers come for largemouth bass (the lake's record bass weighed 11 lb 4 oz), white crappie and other panfish, channel and flathead catfish, blue catfish and bluegill while powerboating and water-skiing are common on fair-weather days. Besides fishing and boating, the park supports picnicking, general wildlife viewing and a small selection of organized play areas. Operationally, Lakeside's northern side is partially open year-round, with full campground access from March 1 through September 30; standard cancellation rates apply for reservations. For location, the lake is about 7 8 miles west of Coleman on Highway 153 follow the park signs into the recreation area and neighboring Friendship Park and Lakeside Park are quick drives if you want to loop around the lake or head into town for supplies.
