About

Flatrock Campground sits along the peaceful shoreline of Hords Creek Lake about 8 miles west of Coleman, Texas, accessed by following Highway 153 out of town. The site is set among gently rolling hills of live oaks that cast good shade over campsites and a gravel swim area, and the campground itself offers a fishing dock and a swim beach (Flatrock Park area #1) that is open to overnight guests. There are 47 campsites in all: 41 sites configured to accommodate both RVs and tents and six tent-only sites. For group outings, seven day-use shelters are available, and the park provides practical lake-side amenities boat ramps, fishing piers and fish-cleaning stations plus a playground and a small specialized park/sport area for daytime recreation. Visitors come to Flatrock for straightforward lake recreation: boating, water sports (water-skiing is popular when levels permit), fishing, picnicking and wildlife viewing. The lake is regularly stocked and anglers can expect largemouth bass, crappie (white crappie), channel and blue catfish, flathead catfish and bluegill among the catches. If you prefer a quieter visit, shaded campsites and shoreline spots make good places to read, bird-watch or launch a kayak. Practical details: check the park office for current fees, reservations and seasonal availability (standard cancellation rates apply), and remember Coleman eight miles to the east is the nearest town for supplies or services.
