“We love this park. Spacious spots with many having tree cover. Picnic tables are all covered. And plenty of deer wandering thru. We did have a fox come by for a visit first night.”

Potters Creek Park sits on the northern shore of Canyon Lake, set into rolling hill country where juniper and native oaks dot gently sloping terrain and rocky outcroppings break up grassy fields of hill-country wildflowers. The park offers 116 total campsites: 99 Both RV Sites & Tent Sites and 17 Tent Sites, and every campsite whether for RV or tent includes water and electricity hookups, a picnic table, fire ring and grill; seven screened shelters and a single group shelter are also available, all with electric and water hookups. Facilities are straightforward and practical for multiday stays: flush toilets and showers, drinking water, two dump stations, and on-site park hosts with rangers patrolling the grounds year-round. Sites nearer the water are exposed to full sun while upper sites sit in thicker oak and juniper shade, so you can pick sun or shade depending on your preference and the season; the park is open year-round, but remember you must bring your own watercraft, bikes, horses or other gear because equipment rentals are not provided. Recreation centers on the clear blue waters of Canyon Lake its limestone bottom gives the lake its color and an average depth around 40 feet, plunging as deep as 130 feet in places and the Guadalupe River that feeds it. Potters Creek has two boat ramps with docks, a fishing pier and a beach for swimming, and the broader lake and river support boating, water sports, fishing (bass, catfish and river trout among the stocked species), canoeing, kayaking and tubing. Five trails around the lake include a mountain-biking route, a horse trail and several footpaths for hiking and wildlife viewing, making birding and horseback riding easy day-trip options. The park lies in the Canyon Lake area between San Antonio and Austin (roughly northwest of New Braunfels) and is accessible via FM-306 from either I-35 or Highway 281; note that reservations are managed through the park's system, which may assess fees for shortening, extending or canceling stays, so check current policies and any charges before you finalize plans.
