What guests say

Verbatim from guest reviews on Recreation.gov ↗ (80 reviews, ★ 4.0). Not written or edited by us.

“Beautiful campground not far from the I-80. Most sites difficult for larger trailers such as our 30' TT. Restrooms not cleaned at all”

Carl S 4 · Sep 2025 · Recreation.gov

“nice camp spot, never seen the camp host all weekend,”

Byron B 3 · Aug 2025 · Recreation.gov

“The campground is very easy to get to. It had a camp host. The campsite had plenty of room for our truck and 20 foot trailer. The views from here are spectacular of the valley below and the road to the top is stunning.”

Donald M 5 · Aug 2025 · Recreation.gov

About

Angel Creek Campground sits on the grassy lower slopes of the East Humboldt Range about eight miles southwest of Wells, Nevada, at roughly 6,200 feet elevation. The aspens around the sites provide partial shade in summer and vivid color in autumn, and wildflowers pepper the meadows in warmer months. Angel Lake, about four miles away, is the local draw for canoeing and fishing (rainbow and brook trout), and the Smith Lake Trail is accessed at the Angel Lake campground entrance, where a designated day-use parking area serves hikers. Keep an eye out for wildlife bighorn sheep, mountain goats, deer and birds of prey are regularly seen near the lake and remember that the broader Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest also offers biking, climbing, horseback riding, OHV routes and winter sports if you want to explore beyond the immediate campground. The campground is small and straightforward, with TOTAL CAMPSITES: 19 SITE TYPE BREAKDOWN: 16 Both RV Sites & Tent Sites, 2 RV Sites, 1 Tent Sites so most parties will find a comfortable site whether they're in a tent or towing an RV. Each campsite includes a picnic table and a combination campfire ring with grill, most sites have tent pads, and vault toilets and drinking water are provided (trash collection is available during peak season). Firewood can be purchased from the host. There is a tent-only group site that accommodates up to 30 people and six tents, with parking for six vehicles, picnic tables, a group fire ring, a family grill and handicap access; that site may be reserved, but if not reserved it is available on a first-come, first-served basis for group camping or day use. After peak season the campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis without trash collection or drinking water off-season use is weather dependent, so call the local district office for current status and plan to pack in/pack out accordingly.
