Methodist Cove Park sits on the west side of Harlan County Lake just outside Alma, Nebraska, providing direct access to a 13,000-acre reservoir that is the state's second largest. The campground is set where mixed-grass prairie meets a largely forested camping loop, so you get plenty of summer shade while still being a short walk or drive to open shoreline and wide water views. The lake and surrounding Republican River Valley support strong wildlife and hunting opportunities pheasant, quail, prairie chicken, white-tailed and mule deer, turkey, waterfowl, rabbit and squirrel are all found in the area while anglers chase walleye, wipers, white bass, northern pike and channel catfish. Harlan County Lake also offers hiking of varying lengths along the shoreline, an equestrian trail a short drive away, an off-road vehicle trail near Republican City, and standard boating and water-sports opportunities; two full-service marinas sit on the lake's east end for fueling, slips and other services. The campground itself has 95 campsites, and all are set up to accommodate both RVs and tents, so you can expect a park that supports mixed camping styles rather than being RV-only or tent-only. Facilities include one large heated shower house with flush toilets centrally located, additional vault toilets scattered around the park, a dump station, potable drinking water, a playground and a boat ramp; a fish-cleaning station with a grinder and running water sits near the entrance for anglers. There is one reservable group picnic shelter for day use, the main campground road is paved while most side roads are gravel, and other recreation options listed for the area include environmental education, picnicking and wildlife viewing. The lake is promoted for year-round recreation, but specific campsite seasons, fees and reservation policies aren't included here call the park office or check the managing agency's website before you go. To reach the park from the highway, head south from U.S. Highway 80 on Nebraska Highway 183 into Alma, then follow South Street about 2.5 miles to the park entrance on the south side of the road.
