“Clean campground. The hot shower was amazing after a long day of hunting. ”
“This im was a good overnight spot. You are near the road but still peaceeful. Restrooms clean sites flat for tents”
“Fairly decent campsite but bathrooms had no toilet paper. For booking, there is a QR code to book electronically but cell service for ATT was 1 bar so it took a while to book. Walking/running/biking trails right out of the campground! Worth the $ for the trail access. ”

Buffalo Gap Campground sits in western North Dakota among the colorful buttes that define this portion of the Dakota Prairie National Grasslands, and its 36 designated RV sites make it a practical base for exploring the surrounding open country. A local loop called the Buffalo Gap Trail begins nearby and can be used for day hikes or linked to the Maah Daah Hey for longer treks; across the grasslands you'll find opportunities for hiking, biking, horseback riding and horse camping, wildlife viewing, hunting, fishing and even boating where water is present. Wildlife is part of the daily rhythm here pronghorn, mule deer and white-tailed deer commonly pass through the camp, and birders and plant enthusiasts will find spring and summer especially productive. The small town of Medora and the entrance to Theodore Roosevelt National Park are only a short drive away, so you can combine backcountry solitude with easy access to visitor services and park trails. The campground's facilities are straightforward and practical: all 36 sites are RV sites and the day-to-day comforts include two flush toilet buildings and a separate building with three showers. Recreation fees are collected at popular sites to support maintenance and improvements road work, water system upgrades, new toilet buildings and other site services and help keep the grasslands maintained; contact the local USFS Ranger Station for current fee, reservation and seasonal information. Pay attention to the grasslands' regulations: fireworks are prohibited, campfires must never be left unattended and must be extinguished fully, and you should pack out all trash and food to avoid attracting wildlife and insects. Motorized travel is restricted to existing roads and trails (vehicles may travel off-trail only to reach a campsite within 300 feet of a road/trail), non-motorized areas are posted and mapped, and you're asked to wash your vehicle before and after travel to avoid spreading weed seed. Winter can bring heavy snow and extreme cold even outside the core months, and human-waste disposal follows Leave No Trace guidance check with the ranger station for current Forest Orders, snowmobile rules, trail advisories and other site-specific restrictions before you go.
