About

Beaver Creek Recreation Area sits on the north side of Beaver Bay on Lake Oahe, about 16 miles west of Linton and along ND Highway 1804 roughly 50 miles south of Bismarck. The reservoir it serves is immense Lake Oahe stretches 231 miles from Pierre, SD to Bismarck, ND, covers some 370,000 surface acres and carves roughly 2,250 miles of shoreline through mixed-grass prairie and occasional steep draws where trees reach down to the water. That scale makes Beaver Creek a practical base for water-centered days: a three-lane boat ramp with two docks at the main launch (plus an additional single-lane ramp and dock on the southeast side of the bay) supports boating, water skiing and swimming, and anglers will find walleye, northern pike and yellow perch among the common catches. The broader Oahe area also offers public hunting for a range of game deer, pronghorn, grouse, dove, pheasant, partridge, small game and waterfowl and the site's name reflects local history: the lake and dam are named for the Oahe Indian Mission established among the Lakota Sioux in 1874. The day-to-day practicalities at Beaver Creek are straightforward to plan around: the campground has 61 reservable sites in total, of which 59 accommodate both RVs and tents and 2 are tent-only; 45 sites provide 30-amp electric hookups. Facilities include a picnic shelter and a group day-use shelter (the group shelter also has electrical service), seasonal flush toilets, vault toilets, and drinking water during peak season. A fish-cleaning station with water (peak season) and electricity sits conveniently near the main ramp, and younger visitors have playgrounds and a nature trail to explore. Reservations and changes or cancellations are handled through Recreation.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777; for facility-specific questions call (701) 255-0015. Whether you come for a quiet night under the stars, a long boating weekend, or to chase a particular species on the shoreline, Beaver Creek combines the services you need with direct access to the wide-open water and prairie that define Lake Oahe.
