“The campground and facilities were nice and the people surrounding me were nice. The lake provided a great view.”
“Great location and enough in the woods to be away from everything!!!! These are primitive sites so bring enough poser and water and it is golden!!!! We really enjoy it.”

Open in Google Maps ↗
Badin Lake Campground sits along the shore of the 5,000-acre Badin Lake inside the Uwharrie National Forest, offering a shaded, wooded setting of pines and hardwoods and a quieter, year-round place to camp in central North Carolina. The loop-style campground contains 34 non-electric sites in two loops; 33 of those sites will accommodate both RVs and tents and one is tent-only. Many sites sit right on the water while others are shaded a short walk back into the forest, and each site is supplied with a picnic table, grill, lantern post, campfire ring and a raised tent pad. Drinking water is available nearby, and both loops have flush toilets and coin or token showers; there is no dump station on site. The campground is reached by traveling roughly 10 miles north of Troy on State Highway 109 and then a few miles on county roads toward the recreation area check current road and access information with the forest office before you go, and verify fees and reservation rules through the Forest Service or the recreation reservation system. Recreation at Badin Lake centers on the water and the trail network that radiates out from the recreation area. Campers commonly swim, picnic on the shore, and fish for bass, bream, crappie and catfish; a public boat ramp is located about two miles from the campground for boat launching. The surrounding public lands provide roughly 40 miles of non-motorized trails suitable for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding, plus about 17 miles of motorized trails for off-highway vehicles; big and small game hunting is also allowed on adjacent forest lands. Summers can be hot and humid with highs in the upper 80s to 90s, while winters typically range from the low 30s to upper 50s, and spring and fall are generally milder in the 60s and 70s. Note (as provided): the campground's upper loop sites #23 35 were unavailable from January 1 to March 12, 2020; if you need specific site availability or seasonal closures, confirm current conditions with the Uwharrie ranger district. A family-friendly theme park with a petting zoo, nature center and mini-golf is also within about an hour's drive for a day trip.
