“This a nice campground that provides access to good hikes and the Spring creek. It is a short drive to Hot Springs. It was perfect for me, but others might need more facilities than the porta-potty set up that is currently there.”
“I love this campground, it’s one of the prettiest ones I have been to. I wish it was better funded though as many things are in disrepair and unkempt. It makes me sad and worried that this campground may not always be around.”

Rocky Bluff Campground sits in a quiet stretch of Pisgah National Forest about three miles south of the small town of Hot Springs, just off NC Scenic Byway 209 in the Spring Creek Gorge Area. The site is wooded and low-key rather than developed: there are 17 rustic campsites, and each site is designated for both RVs and tents, with simple amenities such as picnic tables, tent pads, lantern posts and campfire rings with grills. Potable water spigots are spaced through the loop, but note that as of 2023 the restroom building is closed and porta-johns are provided. The campground also contains three trailheads that leave directly from the loop, so you can step from your campsite onto short local routes without driving, or head into the broader trail network of the Appalachian District. Beyond the loop, Rocky Bluff is well placed for Lowcountry-to-mountain recreation: Spring Creek a North Carolina Mountain Heritage Trout Water stocked with brook, brown and rainbow trout runs nearby, making the campground a good base for anglers, and the French Broad River and the town of Hot Springs offer whitewater rafting, kayaking, tubing and fishing within easy reach. The famed Appalachian Trail passes through Hot Springs for those planning longer-distance hikes, and the town itself provides hot springs, a handful of restaurants, galleries, live music and seasonal festivals. For practical matters not listed here (current fees, reservation rules, seasonal openings or maximum RV lengths), check with the Pisgah National Forest/Appalachian District before you go so you arrive prepared.
