“Van Hook Glade was a nice campground with a good host. The bathrooms and showers were clean, even though when I took a shower, there were several long legged spiders in there. ”
“Great campground. The hosts, Mark and Emily, are top notch. Very welcoming experience.”
“Nice Small camp ground. In a great location. ”

Van Hook Glade sits in the hardwood forests of the Nantahala at about 4,118 feet, offering a cool, heavily wooded setting on gently rolling hills with the calm waters of Cliffside Lake alongside the campground. The developed loop contains a total of 12 sites: seven are configured to accommodate both recreational vehicles and tents, while five are tent-only sites. Every campsite includes a picnic table, a raised tent pad, a lantern post and a campfire ring with a grill; the campground also provides hot showers and flush toilets, and you can buy firewood on site. Vehicle access is straightforward from Highlands follow Highway 64 west for roughly 4.5 miles and you'll find the entrance on the right and the treed sites tend to feel reasonably secluded despite the short drive to town. Recreation ranges from low-key camp comforts to nearby trail and waterfall visits. A short footpath from the loop leads to the Cliffside Lake Recreation Area, where six hiking trails (rated easy to moderate) fan out along the shoreline and nearby ridges; trout fishing, picnic areas and a designated swimming spot are available there, but boating on Cliffside Lake is not permitted. For day trips, Dry Falls and Whitewater Falls are a short drive away, and a scenic run along Highway 64 toward Highlands delivers several overlooks and the town's small shops and general store; Franklin, a larger town, is within reasonable driving distance for groceries, entertainment and services. For current fees, reservation options and seasonal access, check with the National Forests in North Carolina office before you go.
