What guests say

Verbatim from guest reviews on Recreation.gov ↗ (205 reviews, ★ 4.0). Not written or edited by us.

“A campground was well kept and we had one slight problem because the camping space was too small and they moved us without any problems and we had a fantastic time there. Thank you.”

Ricky G 5 · Sep 2024 · Recreation.gov

“Great facility as long as you are ready for no hookups. We had a great week with daytime temp 70 night 50. Just perfect. Clean and well kept. NPS personnel and volunteers very helpful. ”

Kevin C 5 · Aug 2024 · Recreation.gov

“The campground was in a good location near the Linville Falls visitor center with lots of hikes. Note that there are no showers, only restrooms, and the needed some care and maintenance.”

About

Linville Falls Campground sits under a dense pine canopy a short way off the Blue Ridge Parkway at Milepost 317, with the Linville River threading along the campground's edge and Linville Gorge's rim rising in the near distance. The setting is emphatically Appalachian hemlock, white pine, oaks, hickory and birch crowd the campsites, wildflowers punctuate spring, and fall brings a strong display of reds and oranges. Hikers have direct access to a network of trails: the one-mile circuit that hits three overlooks at Linville Falls (including a 45-foot drop into the river), steeper routes that descend into the Linville Gorge for trout fishing, and the short loop to Duggers Creek Falls from the visitor center. For broader exploration the Parkway itself encourages slow auto touring and biking along scenic overlooks, and Lost Cove Cliff Overlook provides good seasonal opportunities to watch hawks and peregrine falcons or scan for the local Brown Mountain lights; Linville Caverns is a short drive south for year-round guided tours. The campground accommodates 64 sites across two loops Loop A has 28 sites and Loop B has 36 with a mix designed for tents and RVs: 29 sites are configured for both RVs and tents, 19 are RV-only, and 16 are tent-only. Amenities are straightforward and convenient: flush toilets, drinking water, a dump station, picnic tables and grills/fire rings at every site. Reservation options are split 39 sites can be reserved in advance while 25 remain first-come, first-served (those walk-up sites cannot be tracked on Recreation.gov and must be claimed in person at the campground kiosk) so plan ahead during peak times if you need a guaranteed spot. The area supports a wide range of activities beyond camping fishing (stocked stretches of the Linville River and native brook trout at Duggers Creek, subject to regulations), picnicking, wildlife viewing, hiking, and visits to nearby historic and cultural sites and practical details like fees and seasonal availability are posted on Recreation.gov.
