Daniel C ★ 5 · Aug 2025This campground is just off of I90 and is accessed via the rest area at Quartz Flats. The spaces are large and well maintained. Even the back in spaces are away from each other to be a comfortable stay. If you are in Loop A or C the trains will not be an issue, they do sound their horn for a grade crossing on the west side of the campground. If you are train person, the BNSF has a main line from Missoula to Cour D Lane that runs by on the west side. You can walk through the tunnel under I 90 to access both sides of the facility. There is water available at various locations near the camp sites to fill containers or fill your freshwater tank on the way out. The dump facility is clean and is well equipped. There are several pit toilets that are very clean and one with running water near the dump station. I stayed in a pull through site, very large and will accommodate my truck and trailer that have a combined length of 50 feet. Generators are allowed and as far as the spaces are apart, you almost can't make out a running generator. Campfires in the fire pits are allowed, I have never been here and been told that a campfire was restricted. The camp host supplies 5 pieces of firewood per day, it is dry and seasoned and makes for a good evening fire.
Jeffrey W ★ 4 · Aug 2025Although the campground is near the Interstate, the closeness to the river and the relative solitude is very nice. Since I was traveling through the area, the convenience of this campground cannot be beat. The hike down to the river via the trail from the campground Loop C is a great get-away. Once down the trail a little bit, the road noise fades away and you get to enjoy the bubbling sounds of the river. There are many markers along the trial, but I didn't find their purpose. If there was a trail map/marker brochure, they were out when I visited. Regardless, the hike is a pleasant one through the trees and surrounding area.

Quartz Flat Campground sits just off Interstate 90 at the Quartz Flat Rest Area, roughly 45 50 minutes west of Missoula and a short drive east of Superior, with the Clark Fork River running along the north edge of the valley. The campground is flat and paved, shaded by pine trees and laid out in three loops that are easy to navigate from the highway entrance. You can walk from the campsites down to the river and there's a short, self-guided interpretive trail on site; the location also puts you close to river launch points (including the Alberton Gorge about 11 miles away) and wider forest access for day trips. Be aware that the setting is influenced by the nearby transportation corridor Interstate 90 and frequent trains are audible throughout the campground so it's more of a convenient, service-oriented stop for river users and travelers than a remote backcountry experience. The campground has 76 sites in total divided among Loop A (28 sites), Loop C (21 sites) and Loop G (27 sites). Seventy of those sites accommodate both RVs and tents, while six are RV-only; Loop A includes six pull-through spots suited to rigs longer than 35 feet. Each site provides a parking space, picnic table and metal fire ring. All three paved loops have potable water, vault toilets, trash service and a camp host; Loop C and Loop G also offer flush toilets and dump stations (non-campers pay $10 to use the dump). Reservation rules are straightforward: even-numbered sites in Loops A and G are reservable, and Loop C's reservable sites are numbered 1 12; any sites not listed as reservable operate on a first-come, first-served basis. For facility-specific questions or current conditions call (406) 822-4233.
