Fifteen Mile Creek Campsite sits at Mile 140 of the C&O Canal Towpath on the Maryland side of the Potomac in the little river town of Little Orleans, where Fifteen Mile Creek meets the Potomac and the ridges of Western Maryland rise close by. The campground contains 10 sites in total: 9 both RV & tent sites and 1 tent site (a group site). The nine single drive-in sites accept small fifth-wheels, travel trailers or pop-outs with a 20-foot maximum length and each can accommodate up to eight people; every single site is outfitted with a picnic table, a fire ring and a grill. The group site does not have direct vehicle access, can hold up to 30 people, and requires trailers and support vehicles to park in the adjacent lot. Facilities are basic but serviceable: protected pit toilets sit between sites #3 and #4 on the dead-end circle, and potable hand-pump water is available seasonally from April 15 October 31. Note that motor vehicle traffic is not allowed on the C&O towpath itself, so expect to walk, bike or lead stock when using the towpath beyond the campground. Boating and fishing are the draw here Fifteen Mile Creek Campground has a boat ramp that puts kayaks, canoes and small motor boats into the Potomac, and anglers age 16 and older must carry a Maryland fishing license. The towpath and surrounding Green Ridge State Forest and Billmeyer Wildlife Management Area expand the options for biking, hiking, paddling, horseback riding and wildlife viewing; the area feels remote and is most colorful in autumn. For access, the site is reached from I-68 via the Little Orleans/Orleans Road exits and the short spur on High Germany Road that dead-ends at the campground. If you reserve a site, be aware of the reservation and cancellation rules: cancellations up to 2 days before a reservation start date incur a $10.00 cancellation fee; canceling the day before or on the day of arrival for an individual site carries a $10.00 service fee plus forfeiture of the first night's use fee (one-night reservations forfeit the entire amount paid); group overnight facility cancellations less than 14 days before arrival also incur a $10.00 service fee and forfeiture of the first night's fee.
