Bailey's Point is the largest Army Corps of Engineers campground on Barren River Lake, sitting along wooded hillsides that slope down to private coves and a shoreline used for swimming and boat mooring. The lake itself was created when a dam was completed in the 1960s for flood control at maximum flood pool it covers about 20,150 acres, and when not holding flood waters the Corps manages more than 10,000 acres for wildlife and recreation. From many of the 216 campsites 215 that accommodate both RVs and tents and one tent-only site you get direct lake views; the campground is spread across five loops (including LOPA with 32 sites, LOPE with 42 sites, and the small BPOI loop with a single site), so although it's the largest campground on the lake there are pockets of quieter shoreline and treed sites. Hikers will find two easy options right from camp: the C.E. Rager Nature Trail, a short shoreline stroll, and the longer Robert Foster Hiking Trail that showcases Kentucky's mix of hardwoods; boaters can launch from the on-site ramp to reach nearby islands for picnics or to chase bass and crappie, and birders often spot kestrels, indigo buntings, bald eagles and, after dark, the calls of barred owls (keep an eye out for the campground's resident white squirrel). Practical details are straightforward: Bailey's Point is open seasonally from April through October, and most of the sites are equipped with electric and water hookups to support a range of RV and tent setups. Family-friendly amenities include two playgrounds, a sand volleyball court, a basketball court and an amphitheater that hosts weekend movie nights, while the boat ramp and sheltered coves make water sports and fishing convenient from camp. The campground is roughly 19 miles southwest of Glasgow, Kentucky, with Barren River Lake State Resort Park directly across the lake (home to events such as the Glasgow Highland Games) and nearby marinas at Port Oliver, Peninsula and The Narrows; day-trip destinations within easy reach include the National Corvette Museum, Kentucky Down Under, Diamond Caverns and Mammoth Cave about an hour north. Reservations carry change and cancellation fees $10 to change or cancel a reservation; cancellations made the day before or up to the day after your arrival are charged the first night's use fee; no-shows incur a $20 fee plus the first night's use fee (if your reservation is only one night and you are charged that first night's use fee, the $10 service fee is waived).
