“Steady decline in quality of this campground since Covid . Was a very nice campground for years for our family. No maintenance. Every year gets more noticeable.”

About

The Narrows sits on the lakeshore of Barren River Lake about 10 miles south of Glasgow, reached from KY-31E onto County Road 1318 and following the signs into the park. The campground occupies a hillside that drops to a gently sloping shoreline and is anchored by a short corridor of islands between The Narrows and Bailey's Point; you can camp uphill on the cliff edges for broad lake views or claim a site down by weeping willows along the water. There are 91 sites in all 90 that accommodate both RVs and tents and one tent-only site and the campground is arranged in two loops that remain open throughout the regular camping season. Expect services to be seasonal: water hookups and electricity are provided at campsites from May through September, and the campground is closed during the winter months. The surrounding park landscape reflects regional history and habitat management the Army Corps of Engineers oversees more than 10,000 acres here, and warm-season native grass fields and limestone cliffs give a strong sense of the historic open-country character of Allen and Barren counties. Recreation at The Narrows leans heavily on water and shoreline access. A marina and boat launch are just outside the campground, making boating, tubing, skiing and wakeboarding on the open lake easy to reach; anglers can fish from the shore under the willows or boat out to quieter runs on Coon, Green, Beaver and Skaggs creeks. The campground itself offers simple, family-oriented amenities: an amphitheater, horseshoe pit, a large grassy area suited to cornhole or games, and a playground and picnic pavilion across the road (the pavilion is available by advanced reservation). Hikers can step onto the adjacent Lindsey Nature Trail to climb limestone bluffs for panoramic views and seasonal wildlife sightings expect cicadas in summer afternoons and nighthawks at dusk, and keep an eye out for deer that sometimes cross between islands. For day trips, the Barren River Lake State Resort Park and Glasgow events like the Highland Games are nearby, and longer excursions to attractions such as the National Corvette Museum, Kentucky Down Under, Diamond Caverns or Mammoth Cave National Park (about an hour north) are all within easy reach. For campsite availability, fees and reservations, contact the park office or the managing corps office directly.
