Prairie Ridge sits on a high ridge between Buck Creek and Honey Creek about 6 miles southwest of the junction of Iowa Highway 5 and J18 near Moravia, with clear views across portions of Rathbun Lake and the surrounding prairie and timbered draws sunsets here are a consistent feature. The campground contains 54 family-friendly, large campsites arranged in two separate camping areas; each site can accommodate both RVs and tents. Practical comforts include two shower houses, potable drinking water, RV dump stations, and a modern playground for younger visitors. On the water side, Prairie Ridge's boat ramp is sheltered on three sides and serves both motorized craft and small-sail boats (wind surfers and catamarans), and a courtesy dock with a fish-cleaning station makes it easy to get on and off the water with gear and catch in hand. Prairie Ridge is a good base for the wider recreation opportunities at Rathbun Lake: an eight-mile trail that begins here is the park's longest and links to Honey Creek Resort, and the area supports biking, hiking, boating, fishing, wildlife viewing and other lake activities. The Rathbun Fish Hatchery is open to the public on weekdays (groups are encouraged to make appointments), and about a 14-minute drive west on Highway S70 brings you to the 125-acre Rathbun OHV Park, which includes a beginner tot-lot; check the OHV Park's online schedule and rules before you go. The campground is a short drive from bait shops, dining and fuel; for up-to-date information on fees, reservations and seasonal availability, consult the Rathbun Lake park office or the Honey Creek Resort. To reach Prairie Ridge from Moravia, head west on J18 for about 4 miles and then south on gravel 200th Avenue for roughly 2.5 miles, following signs into the park.
