Crescent Group Campground sits on a narrow peninsula of Hartwell Lake, spread across roughly 41 acres of gentle slopes and a mixed canopy of pine and hardwood that gives plenty of shade through the day. The Corps of Engineers has laid the site out as two separate reservable loops intended for group use, and the reservation system currently lists four reservable campsites each advertised to accommodate both RVs and tents. Amenities are substantial for groups: campsites have full water and electric hookups, there are two standard shelters (one on each loop) with water and electric service, two comfort stations (one with showers), a dump station, a playground, and a network of paved and gravel roads and parking areas. There is no boat ramp or courtesy dock at Crescent itself, so boaters should plan to use one of the many other Corps-managed ramps around Hartwell Lake if launching is needed. The campground's postal address is 150 Campers Way, Starr, SC, and it's a short drive northeast of Hartwell, Georgia and a short drive from Clemson, South Carolina, making groceries, gas and dining options easy to reach. Hartwell Lake is known for fishing and a wide range of water recreation, and visitors to Crescent will find access to largemouth bass, crappie, catfish and striped/hybrid bass across the lake's nearly 56,000 acres of water and extensive shoreline; the lake also supports boating, water skiing in calmer coves, swimming beaches elsewhere on the lake, hiking and wildlife viewing. Practical booking details are important: Crescent requires reservations at least two days prior to arrival, and there are fees for changes and cancellations (a $10 fee to cancel or change a reservation, with the first night charged for cancellations made the day before or up to the day after arrival). Reserved sites are held until 2 p.m. the day after your scheduled arrival; if you do not arrive by that time the reservation will be canceled, you will forfeit the first night's fee and be assessed a $20 service fee. Note also the NNRS refund rules: reservations with departure dates outside the 6- or 12-month maximum window cannot be changed or cancelled for 18 days after booking, refunds must be requested within 14 days after your scheduled departure via NNRS Customer Service (888-448-1474), and refunds to check payments may take up to eight weeks to process.
