“The road coming into the camp ground is not paved and is very rough. Not recommended for Motor coaches....but the grounds are very nice”
“The campground was great! Our site (8) was right next to the bathroom, which was great for my children. We enjoyed the sunset at the lake and swam most of our time there. There are great trails for hiking with your kids, too! Can’t wait to go again!”
“A beautiful place and quiet setting. Space was huge and view of lake spectacular. Host was very nice and helpful. ”

Camel Lake Recreation Area sits inside the longleaf pine country of the Apalachicola National Forest, roughly west of Tallahassee near Bristol and reached by a short unpaved spur off State Road 12 (Forest Road 105). The campground is small and shaded, with 10 total campsites all designated as RV sites laid out above the lake's rim; several sites offer electrical hookups and the camp area includes a bathhouse with flush toilets. A campground host is on site at all times, and the day-use parking, picnic areas and restrooms are accessible. Day-use hours change seasonally: April 1 Oct 31 the area is open 8:00 am 8:00 pm, and Nov 1 Mar 31 it's open 8:00 am 6:00 pm. Reservations, fees and any refunds are handled through Recreation.gov (refunds cannot be made on site and must be processed through that site). What brings most people here is the water: Camel Lake's clear seepage-fed surface is ringed by a short loop trail that you can extend by connecting to nearby stretches of the Florida National Scenic Trail. The day-use area has a sandy beach, picnic shelter and tables for swimming and shore-side lunches, and there are boat landings nearby that give access to the creeks feeding the Apalachicola River for paddling and exploration. The forest around the lake is classic Gulf coastal habitat tall longleaf pines, wiregrass and seepage slopes that support pitcher-plant bogs and nearby pine savannahs so wildlife viewing and botanizing are solid options. If you want to drive out, the Apalachee Savannahs and Big Bend Scenic Byways thread through similar landscapes and lead down to the coast about an hour south.
