“Clean camp site with great views and well maintained access road.”
“Recently constructed campsite area on the north side of I-70 is well laid out and has a great night sky view (we used it for getting out of the dome of Grand Junction city lights to witness Comet Lemmon). ”
“Amazing campground but the road was washed out from the recent rains. Do not attempt unless you have a high clearance vehicle with 4 wheel drive.”

Rabbit Valley is organized into five distinct camp loops that together offer 75 sites tailored to different styles of backcountry camping. Fluffle (25 sites) and High North (13 sites) contain the largest and most RV-friendly spaces Fluffle group sites can handle vehicles up to 60 feet and include day-use trailer parking and a four-pen corral, while High North has one group site rated to 60 feet (larger rigs approaching from the north via Highway 6 avoid a tight switchback off I-70). Koniklos is purposely equestrian (3 sites) and provides individual corrals and room for two vehicles up to 60 feet, though access is through a rocky wash that typically requires high clearance; Jouflas (14 sites) is aimed at tent campers only with a 25-foot vehicle limit; Knowles (20 sites) is for tent and overland style camping with a 30-foot vehicle cap and access through a wash where high clearance and 4x4 are strongly recommended. Roads inside Rabbit Valley are not maintained and can be narrow and rough Knowles Overlook in particular is reached through a dry stream bed that changes quickly with storms so plan vehicle choice and timing accordingly. The recently expanded campground areas sit just off I-70 (take exit 2 south to the BLM kiosk) and are minutes from Fruita and Grand Junction for groceries, gear, and services; sites accommodate both RV and tent camping (65 sites accept both RVs and tents, 10 are RV only). The landscape around Rabbit Valley is the arid edge of the Colorado Plateau: sparse junipers punctuate red-rock mesas with long views toward the Colorado River, the San Juan and La Sal ranges, Colorado National Monument and the flat-topped Grand Mesa. Rabbit Valley is set inside the larger McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area, so camping here puts you close to trail systems, dinosaur-era interpretive features like the Trail Through Time and an active quarry, and a wide sweep of recreation bring a mountain bike or ATV for the local routes, hitch a horse to use the corrals, or drive a short distance to access the Kokopelli/Mack Ridge biking and nearby flatwater boating on the Ruby-Horsethief stretch of the Colorado River. Wildlife you might encounter in the region includes desert bighorn sheep, elk, deer, eagles and collared lizards; temperatures can swing dramatically (annual precipitation is under 10 inches and highs can reach 100+°F while winter can drop below zero), so spring and fall are the most temperate seasons. Reservations are required for all sites: nightly camping is $20 (covers up to 10 people and 2 vehicles) plus an $8 non-refundable reservation fee; you can change a reservation up to 24 hours before your arrival, receive a full refund minus the $8 fee if you cancel at least 48 hours ahead, and refunds are not issued for poor weather or road conditions.
