“Beautiful area, spacious site. Water & toilets are close. Great hiking options from camp. Didn’t realize we couldn’t have a campfire so were surprised & bummed but otherwise enjoyed this opportunity ”
“We enjoyed our stay at Saddlehorn. Very clean facilities and great launching point for circumnavigating the Rim Rock Drive on our bikes. ”
“Beautiful views over looking Grand Junction. The campsite was clean with a picnic table. The actual parking space was a bit small for our 18” camper. It was more of a turnout than a parking space. The door to our camper stepped out to the camp ground road.”

Saddlehorn Campground sits inside Colorado National Monument on the rim of the canyon country west of Grand Junction and just a few miles up from Fruita, with the Saddlehorn Visitor Center a short drive away. The camp units are set among red sandstone formations and pinyon-juniper stands, with open views northwest over the Grand Valley and southeast toward the Monument's monoliths and sheer-walled canyons. Days here are shaped by the same features that draw photographers, cyclists and climbers: Historic Rim Rock Drive's switchbacks and pullouts, miles of maintained hiking trails, technical sandstone routes, and regular sightings of desert bighorn sheep, golden eagles and collared lizards. The Monument's mix of auto touring, biking, hiking, climbing and wildlife viewing means you can plan anything from a short scenic drive and a picnic to a full day of trail riding or route finding on the cliffs. The campground is the Monument's only established site facility and contains 79 campsites total, divided among three loops: Loop A (19 sites), Loop B (31 sites) and Loop C (29 sites). All sites are classified to accommodate both RVs and tents, though Loop C is primarily intended for tents and small vehicles and is managed on a first-come, first-served basis; from late March through mid-October Loops A and B accept reservations (or may be taken for one night), and Loop B remains open year-round on a first-come basis between mid-October and late March. Practical limits are strict: vehicles longer than 40 feet (combined tow vehicle and trailer) cannot be accommodated. Facilities are straightforward each site has a picnic table and a charcoal-only grill, and seasonal restrooms with flush toilets and summer water are provided but there are no electric hookups, no fill or dump stations, and no showers. The campground's proximity to Grand Junction, Fruita and nearby state and federal recreation areas makes it a good base for combining Monument exploration with river access, mountain biking, or visits to local orchards and towns.
