Pinnacles Campground sits on the east side of Pinnacles National Park off Highway 25, about 32 miles south of Hollister and 29 miles northeast of King City, set among rolling hills of Valley Oak, Blue Oak and Coast Live Oak with a small seasonal creek threading the grounds. The park's volcanic origins are visible from the trailheads: spires, ridgelines and talus slopes that rise from roughly 824 feet in the creek bottoms to more than 3,300 feet on the higher peaks. Hikers have direct access to the park from the campground via the Bench Trail, and more than 30 miles of trails fan out to highlights such as Bear Gulch Reservoir, the High Peaks and the Balconies area including dark talus caves where you may encounter Townsend's big-eared bats (bring a flashlight). Rock climbers come for routes from single-pitch top-ropes to multi-pitch lines along Machete Ridge, and wildlife viewing is a prime draw: deer and wild turkeys frequent the campground, and it's one of the few places you can see California condors and other raptors overhead. The campground itself contains 134 sites arranged across five loops Loop A (21 sites), Loop B (27), Loop C (31), Loop D (37) and Loop G (18) with a mix of site types to suit different groups: 88 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents, 30 RV-only sites, 6 tent-only sites and 10 glamping sites; family and group tent sites are also offered. Roads and parking spurs are gravel; RV sites include electrical hookups. Facilities on-site include flush toilets, drinking water and showers, plus a small general store with basic food and camping supplies and a seasonal swimming pool open April through September. Pinnacles Campground is open year-round, but fees, reservations and any seasonal restrictions are managed by the park check the National Park Service or recreation.gov for current rates, reservation availability and any access notices before you go.
