“We always enjoy going to Fowler’s Campground! We had great weather and enjoyed the falls. ”
“Sites are relatively spread out which is nice. Great access to the creek and hiking trails! Everything seemed to be in good shape and well maintained. ”
“There was a no water. We came with our RV dry, had to re-hook up, drive 10 miles to the Ranger station for water.. There was nothing on recreation.gov. Indicating that they shut off the water for the season. ”

Fowlers Campground sits along the Upper McCloud River about five miles east of the town of McCloud on the east slope of Mount Shasta, at roughly 3,300 feet elevation. The site is set in a mixed conifer and oak woodland that opens onto riverside views and a trailhead that leads downstream to the three tiers of McCloud Falls; expect about a three-mile round trip if you follow the river trail to see all three falls, which range roughly 15 to 50 feet in height. For drivers who prefer to stay on pavement, the nearby McCloud River Loop a paved, roughly 10-mile scenic road gives ready access to the Middle and Upper Falls parking lots and overlooks. The river itself is a draw: swimming holes and straightforward angling are common here, and this stretch of the McCloud has no special fishing restrictions, so bring your gear. Nearby day destinations include the Cattle Camp swimming hole, Lakin Dam fishing area, McCloud Reservoir and the Medicine Lake Highlands; the towns of McCloud and Mount Shasta are about a 10- and 20-minute drive respectively. The campground offers 36 campsites in total; every site is configured to accommodate both tents and mid-sized RVs or trailers, though very large RVs are not recommended. Sites have paved parking spurs, picnic tables, fire rings and access to piped drinking water, with vault toilets located around the loop. Some sites include bear-resistant food storage lockers, and the campground is typically staffed by a resident host. Reservations are managed through the NRRS system and changes or cancellations incur a $10 service fee; late cancellations may carry additional penalties, so check the reservation policy for full details. Whether you plan to hike to the falls, fish from the river, swim, or use the loop road to visit overlooks, Fowlers provides a compact, well-equipped base for exploring this southern Cascade stretch of Shasta-Trinity National Forest.
