“My camp site was clean. No ants also. Plenty of shade also.”
“I have been to this campground before, and it was a pleasant experience; however, this time it was a bit discouraging since the place was closed when we arrived, and no one informed us about it. It would have been great to know that the place would be closed in advance.”

Oak Grove Campground sits in a broad valley of large canyon live oaks, ribbonwood and chamise on the Palomar Ranger District of Cleveland National Forest, with stands of manzanita threading the slopes. The campground's open-but-private sites give good exposure for stargazing and birdwatching; you'll also share the area with a range of native animals from mule deer and coyotes to smaller mammals like jackrabbits and California ground squirrels (mountain lion and bobcat occur in the forest, so exercise normal wildlife caution). The short but steep Oak Grove Trail begins across State Route 79 behind the ranger station; this 1.5-mile route one of the district's oldest gains enough elevation to deliver views of the San Jacinto and San Gorgonio ranges and links to the Oak Grove Truck Trail for a longer push (another 5 miles one way to High Point Lookout). If you're willing to drive farther, Palomar State Park and the Palomar Observatory (County Route S6) are nearby for daytime visits or public telescope viewing, and Temecula Wine Country is within easy driving distance; the closest town is Warner Springs. Practical details matter here: the campground has 62 sites in two loops 27 sites in Oak Loop and 35 in Ribbonwood and every one of those 62 sites is configured to accommodate both tents and recreational vehicles, with a picnic table and a grill at each campsite. Drinking water is available on site; restroom facilities differ by loop (flush toilets in Ribbonwood, vault toilets in Oak). Oak Grove functions well as a base for hiking, camping, picnicking and RV camping, while the broader Cleveland National Forest offers additional activities such as biking, horseback riding and OHV use and interpretive programs. The site is accessed from State Route 79 near Warner Springs (the campground sits on the north side of the highway across from the fire station, about 24 miles south of Temecula), and because trail sections are steep and semi-remote you should carry plenty of drinking water and check current fees, reservation rules and seasonal access with the Palomar ranger station before you go.
