Dripping Springs Campground sits just off Highway 79 about 11 miles east of Temecula, serving as a low-key base for exploring the Agua Tibia Wilderness. The site has 32 campsites in total: 25 sites configured for both RVs and tents, five designated equestrian sites, and two tent-only sites. Facilities are basic but functional flush restrooms and potable water are provided, but there are no showers or other developed amenities on site. The surrounding landscape shifts quickly from riparian creekside habitat important because it supports the endangered Arroyo Toad to the sun-baked chaparral on the surrounding hills and pockets of coniferous forest higher on the ridgelines, so expect a mix of open shrubland and shady forest pockets when you hike out from camp. Outdoor options are straightforward and centered on foot and hoof: the campground is a trailhead for hiking, trail running, and backpacking into the adjacent Agua Tibia Wilderness, which includes a roughly 20-mile hiking loop for multi-day trips. The five equestrian sites accommodate horse camping and access to local bridle routes, and the 25 RV/tent sites mean you can arrive with a trailer if desired; other activities available within Cleveland National Forest include biking, interpretive programs, OHV routes, picnicking, and general recreational vehicle use, though some of those opportunities are on other forest lands rather than at the campground itself. Because the campground borders sensitive riparian areas that support the Arroyo Toad, practice low-impact behavior around streams and vegetation; fees, reservation requirements, seasonal availability and access restrictions can change, so check the Cleveland National Forest or recreation.gov for current rules and to reserve a site before you go.
