“We enjoy using this spot for our church group every spring at Seven Springs Group Campground.”
“Took some Cub Scouts up in early March. Awesome spot, but really tough to judge the forecast (important with little kids). Nighttime lows were 8-10 degrees lower than expected. Still had a great time with daytime highs of 70, but lows almost got down to freezing. ”

About 20 miles north of Cave Creek and Carefree on Forest Road 24, Cave Creek Group Site sits in a narrow valley of juniper and sycamore that provides plentiful shade and noticeably cooler temperatures than the Phoenix lowlands. Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, the site centers on a single large group camping area the campground has one reservable group site that accommodates both tents and RVs and a shallow creek fed by seven small springs (only several inches deep) where kids and adults sometimes hunt for crawdads. Practical amenities make multi-family or multi-generation outings straightforward: twelve stoneware picnic tables (deep crimson jasper mixed with common fieldstone), three central grills, a covered food-prep area with one serving table, two large covered ramadas, four benches, a designated campfire circle, vault toilets, and trash service. A game area supports volleyball and horseshoes, and the combination of shade, spring flow and spring wildflowers rewards photographers in season. For recreation, the site doubles as a trailhead gateway: immediately across the road the Cave Creek trail system offers access to more than 48 miles of hiking and mountain-biking routes suitable for day trips or overnight backpacking, and the nearby Bronco Trailhead provides parking for large groups and six horse pens for equestrian outings. Within a short drive are the Sears-Kay ruin (about seven miles south and listed on the National Register of Historic Places) and Forest Road 562's approach toward Humboldt Mountain for expansive views. The broader Tonto National Forest surrounding the site supports a wide range of activities hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and horse camping, wildlife and bird watching, picnicking, auto touring and, in other parts of the forest, fishing, boating and swimming. Fees reflect group size: $75 per night for groups of 1 50 people and $150 per night for groups of 51 150; note that the last nine miles of Forest Road 24 are an all-weather gravel road that is narrow with blind curves, so plan vehicle and trailer travel accordingly.
