Twin Peaks Campground sits within the heart of Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, a stretch of Sonoran Desert where stands of organ pipe and saguaro cactus share the landscape with a surprising diversity of desert wildlife. The campground is about 1.5 miles from the Kris Eggle Visitor Center (which provides maps, current trail info and free Wi-Fi) and roughly five miles north of the Lukeville border crossing; Historic Ajo is about 33 miles to the north if you need groceries or fuel. There are 208 campsites in all 171 designated for RVs and 37 for tents and the campground's layout includes specific accommodations for generator use and non-generator areas: 110 sites are in the RV generator loop, 60 in an RV non-generator loop, and 34 are tent-only non-generator sites. Within the campground you can walk a 0.9-mile perimeter trail or take the 1.2-mile Desert View Trail near the group sites; beyond those loops the monument offers many more auto-touring, biking, hiking, horseback riding and wildlife-viewing opportunities, and experienced hikers will find rewarding routes into the canyons if they travel with a map, compass and plenty of water. Facilities and rules at Twin Peaks are practical and aimed at protecting this living desert. Campsites are reservation only (reservations may be made up to six months in advance and same-day reservations may be possible); call (520) 387-6849 or use Recreation.gov for bookings and changes. There are flush toilets and potable water in the campground, restrooms 1, 4 and 5 have solar-heated showers (water can be cool on cloudy mornings), and a dump station sits at the southern end past the last row of tent sites. There are no electrical, water or sewer hookups; generators are permitted only in sites #1 #112 during the hours 8:00 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 6:00 p.m., are not allowed in RV sites #113 #174 or in tent sites #175 #208, and are allowed in Group Campground sites #1 and #2 only. RVs are not permitted in sites 175 208; ground fires are prohibited but raised firepits are allowed; several sites (1, 7, 15, 17, 21, 178, 183, 187, 193 and 203) have shade structures. Note seasonal closures: restrooms 3, 4 and 6 are closed April December and sites 71 145 are closed April December. A $25 park entrance fee (good seven days) applies in addition to camping fees; group sites carry a flat $50 per site per night fee. Cancellation and refund policies include a $10 service fee on refunds, specific late-cancellation and no-show penalties, and limited 50% camping discounts for qualifying Interagency Pass holders (Senior Annual/Lifetime, Access, Golden Age/Access) on individual sites only check Recreation.gov or the visitor center for full details and current staffing hours (campground kiosk Jan Apr 9:30 5:00, visitor center daily 9:00 5:00).
