Guyandotte Campground sits along the upper branch of R.D. Bailey Lake in rugged country where the water meets steep, wooded shoreline. The campground contains 86 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents, with the layout divided into two loops Locust Branch with 61 sites and Reedy Creek with 25 and a range of service levels from electric to full hookups so car campers and RVs can both find suitable spots. Practical comforts include developed showerhouses, restrooms and multiple playgrounds for families, and several shoreline fishing opportunities right from the campsite area. The R.D. Bailey Visitor Center, which overlooks the lake, is nearby and provides orientation to the area; other local attractions within easy reach include the lake itself and the Hatfield & McCoy ATV Trails. Recreation at Guyandotte and the surrounding R.D. Bailey Lake area covers a lot of ground: boating and water sports on the lake, solid fishing from shore and from boats, hiking and picnicking on nearby trails and day-use areas, auto-touring routes through the rugged landscape, and wildlife viewing. The campground provides playground facilities, while the broader park includes specialized sport sites and additional recreational infrastructure. Management sets fees, reservation policies and seasonal availability, so campers should check current information with the park before arriving; the presence of hookups and developed facilities makes Guyandotte a practical base for both overnight camping and multi-day outings on the lake.
