Coho Campground sits on the west shore of Wynoochee Lake beneath a mixed stand of evergreen conifers and hardwoods, offering the kind of shaded, lakeside setting that favors long summer evenings and quiet mornings. The facility has a total of 58 campsites: 46 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents (sites built to take trailers and RVs up to about 36 feet), nine tent-only sites, and three glamping yurts. The campground's layout is organized into distinct loops two vehicle loops (Loop A and Loop B, 23 sites each), a hike-in loop of nine sites, plus three short walk-in sites so you can choose a more secluded hike-in pitch or a drive-up spot with room for an RV. In addition to individual sites, Coho includes two group sites sized for roughly 16 people each. Basic comforts are in place: flush toilets, potable drinking water, trash collection, picnic tables and campfire rings, and a paved road through the campground; an RV dump station is located just outside the entrance on Forest Road 2294. The three yurts sleep up to six people and can accommodate two vehicles; each yurt sits a short 300 500 foot walk from the parking area, are non-smoking, and have site-specific rules (yurt sites #57 and #58 do not allow additional tents or trailers/RVs, while yurt site #50 will accommodate an extra tent). Yurts are available by reservation check the Forest Service website for current fees, reservation windows, and seasonal openings. Recreation at Coho centers on Wynoochee Lake and the surrounding forest roads and trails. A boat ramp and shoreline access make boating, swimming and fishing convenient from the campground, and the 16-mile Wynoochee Lake Shore Trail circles the lake and is open to mountain bikes for longer, varied rides. For short interpretive outings, the Working Forest Nature Trail begins inside the campground as a half-mile, accessible loop explaining local resource uses; nearby short trails lead to Spoon Creek Falls and Wynoochee Falls, while the Wynoochee Dam overlook offers interpretive exhibits, a dramatic view of the gorge below the dam, and nearby swimming and picnic areas. Beyond the immediate lakeshore you'll find the broader recreational spectrum of Olympic National Forest hiking, biking, horseback riding and horse camping, fishing and wildlife viewing, off-highway vehicle routes in designated areas, interpretive programs, and opportunities to visit historic fire lookouts and cabins so Coho works well as a base for both relaxed lakeside days and longer trail or backcountry excursions. To reach the campground expect a forest-road drive of roughly 35 miles from the Montesano/Route 12 area up Wynoochee Valley Road and onto Forest Roads 22/2294; consult current road and trail conditions before you go.
