“We enjoyed the peace and quite. Our site was very clean and the park hosts are friendly. I do wish you would put in your rules that people that have a dog must be on a leach and pick up their deposits. I believe leaving a site in good condition for the next campers. ”
“It is a nice family park, however, sites 16 - 30 being closed is a SHAME and UNECESSARY!”

Hanks Creek sits on the forested edge of Sam Rayburn Reservoir, one of the largest man-made lakes entirely within Texas at just over 114,000 surface acres. The campground feels like an outpost in the Piney Woods: tall living pines dominate the landscape and support a surprising variety of plants including orchids and carnivorous species as well as local wildlife. Birders may watch for the red-cockaded woodpecker, an endangered species that excavates cavities in mature pines, and wildlife viewers will find plenty of shore and forest activity around the lake. Sam Rayburn itself is nationally known for largemouth bass and hosts regular fishing tournaments; from Hanks Creek you can easily launch for bass, crappie, catfish and sunfish fishing or take advantage of the reservoir's water-sport scene jet skiing, water skiing and swimming are popular where the marinas and boat ramps concentrate activity, and several privately run marinas also offer concessions. The campground provides practical facilities for a range of campers: there are 56 campsites in total, with 47 sites configured to accommodate both RVs and tents (these sites include electric hookups) and 9 tent-only sites; the park also offers group camping, a playground, a boat ramp and hot showers. Onshore recreation at Hanks Creek includes volleyball, mountain biking, hiking and wildlife viewing, while nearby Bannister Wildlife Management Area on the lake's northern peninsula adds more hiking and biking terrain and an Eastern wild turkey restoration area to explore. Hanks Creek lies a short drive northeast of Zavalla, reached via State Highway 147 and local farm-to-market roads; once you turn off the highway follow posted park signs into the campground. Fees, reservation rules and seasonal availability are handled by the park management, so check with the park office or the official park reservation system before you go.
