“We loved our time at Dennis Cove! Our campsite was well maintained and ideally located just above the creek, the bathrooms were clean, and the other campers around us were courteous and quiet. We will definitely return to camp there again! ”

Dennis Cove Campground sits along Laurel Fork Creek at about 2,650 feet in Carter County and offers a quiet, creekside experience in the southern Appalachians. The developed campground contains 14 campsites total: 13 sites are set up to accommodate both RVs and tents, and 1 site is tent-only. Each campsite includes a picnic table, a metal fire ring, and a lantern holder, and the campground is served by flush toilets. The site's creekside location and higher elevation make it a welcome relief in hot weather, and the dense forest around the loop lends a rustic, low-key character that works well for families and campers seeking simpler facilities rather than full-service hookups. Outdoor opportunities cluster right around the campground and along Laurel Fork. The creek below the campground is stocked with rainbow trout, while upstream reaches and tributaries are managed as wild trout waters for brown, rainbow and brook trout; anglers should check current regulations before fishing. Laurel Fork Trail (Trail #39) follows the creek for about 8.0 miles and crosses the stream many times, and the trailhead for Coon Den Falls (Trail #37) sits adjacent to the campground. The Appalachian Trail is reachable about a mile west along Dennis Cove Road, and Watauga Lake is roughly a 25-minute drive away. Access to Dennis Cove is off US-321/TN-67 east of Hampton; follow Dennis Cove Road for roughly five miles the road is steep with hairpin turns, so plan to drive slowly and use caution. Note: Dennis Cove Campground was closed for the 2023 season; check the Cherokee National Forest/US Forest Service website for current opening dates, fees and reservation rules before you go.
