Outflow Camping sits along the lower reaches of Youghiogheny River Lake in the Laurel Highlands, straddling the Mason Dixon line between Pennsylvania and Maryland and reached from Route 281 just outside the small town of Confluence. The lake itself stretches about 16 miles and opens into channels up to a half-mile wide, which is why powerboaters and water-skiers favor it in southwestern Pennsylvania; you can launch right from the lake access and spend long runs between fingers of forested shoreline. The outflow below the dam is one of the few year-round trout waters in the state and is regularly stocked from April through September, and the campground includes a fishing pier so anglers can fish without leaving the loop. The surrounding terrain is a mix of narrow valleys and steep-sloped, rounded hills covered in northern hardwoods beech, sugar maple, white ash, yellow poplar and basswood which supports a healthy array of wildlife, including deer, black bear, turkey, grouse, rabbit and squirrel. Practical camping here is straightforward: Outflow offers 76 total campsites 47 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents, 4 RV-only sites, and 25 tent-only sites spread across named areas such as Hike and Bike (11 sites), LOCU (20 sites), OCAM (1 site), Pavilion (1 site) and REAR (2 sites). You'll find a mix of walk-to group sites, RV sites and tent-only sites; many sites have electrical hookups and the campground provides flush toilets, hot showers, drinking water and a dump station. Family-oriented facilities include a children's playground and an amphitheater, and Hammock Stations have been added to the Bike and Hike and group camping areas for a different kind of overnight setup. Activities within the park cover boating, camping, environmental education, fishing, hiking, picnicking, playground use, organized sport site access, water sports and wildlife viewing; check the park's official information for current fees, reservation rules and any seasonal access details before you go.
