“The campground, scenery and camp host were great. Sadly, our electric pedestal did not work. But we're good at boondocking, so it was OK. We will visit again in the future.”
“Like the location, the serenity, and the size of the campground.”

Leith Run Campground sits on the north bank of the Ohio River near Newport, Ohio, set among a mixed hardwood-pine stand with many sites that back right onto the water and a backwater estuary adjacent to the loop. A paved trail and an elevated boardwalk with a gazebo lead down to the wetlands for fishing and wildlife viewing, and a trailhead for the Scenic River Trail climbs to a bluff above the river for broader views of the Willow Island Pool. Water-based recreation is a key draw here canoeing, kayaking and swimming on the river are common when conditions allow, and anglers use both the estuary and river to target bass, catfish and other species. The campground layout is grassy and family-oriented: there are 23 total campsites (18 sites suitable for both RVs and tents, plus 5 tent-only sites), and single-family sites are sized to accommodate up to eight people. Facilities at Leith Run lean toward comfort and convenience rather than backcountry isolation. Most sites have electricity (a $5 hookup fee applies), picnic tables, campfire rings and grills, and the basic camping fee is $15 so a family electric site totals $20. The campground also offers accessible flush toilets, showers, drinking water, a dump station, and several accessible group picnic shelters; an adjacent picnic area includes covered shelters with electricity and grills, a playground, volleyball court, horseshoe pits and scenic overlooks. Because seasonal schedules and reservation policies can change, plan to check current availability and any site reservation requirements with the Wayne National Forest office before you go; otherwise, expect a straightforward, river-front camping experience with good access to boating, fishing, hiking and day-use amenities.
