“It would be great to show pictures of the campsite. Arrived at the campground and found that the entrance to the site we selected was blocked by large boulders. We could not use our truck camper. Had to find another site. Otherwise, the campground was fine.”
“Great campsite! Exactly what I was looking for, out in the mountains, trees, river, trails, campfire, this place has it all! Camp was clean, and everyone was friendly. This was my first solo camping experience and I felt safe and had a wonderful time with my dog!”
“One of the best campgrounds we’ve stayed at. The pit toilets were in pretty bad shape - very smelly, lots of flies - but such a scenic and quiet site we could look past that.”

Sugarloaf 2 sits in the northwoods of the White Mountain National Forest, just east of Twin Mountain and a short drive from the western base of Mount Washington. The campground is small and rustic, with 20 sites arranged around a single large loop; 14 sites can accommodate both RVs and tents while six are tent-only. Campsites are well spaced some perched on a ridge offering direct views of nearby peaks while thick stands of hardwood and pine create a quiet, forested setting. Facilities are basic but serviceable: accessible restrooms and a hand pump for water are on site, but there is no dump station and the nearest public showers are about 10 miles away, so plan accordingly for longer stays or for RV users who need hookups elsewhere. Recreation radiates outward from the campground: short trails begin at the site and the larger trail network of the White Mountains (including the Appalachian Trail) is within easy driving distance, making hiking and mountain biking obvious draws. The Ammonoosuc River runs nearby, providing spots to wade and fish for brook trout in summer, and the area around Bretton Woods and the Mount Washington Hotel is close by for downhill skiing or sightseeing off the hill. Wildlife is part of the experience here moose, white-tailed deer and black bear inhabit the forest, and the area supports nearly 200 bird species including the rare Bicknell's Thrush so take standard food- and trash-management precautions. Additional activities available within the forest and surrounding area include horseback riding, picnicking, swimming, winter sports, and opportunities to visit historic attractions such as the Cog Railway that climbs Mount Washington; fee and reservation details are managed by the White Mountain National Forest office and should be checked before you go.
