“Absolutely beautiful campground! The lake and mountain views are awesome! Clean bathrooms. Friendly people.”
“Love Jack Rabbit. Tried the loop with site 90 for the first time. This loop is much quieter. I usually stay on loop with site 55. Bathrooms are always clean. Sites on the lake seem to all have trail access to the water. Mtn bike trails are great there. Def worth the trip!”

Jackrabbit Mountain Campground sits on a wooded peninsula that reaches into Lake Chatuge in the Nantahala National Forest, at about 1,860 feet in a mixed stand of deciduous and pine. The facility offers 92 campsites spread across three distinct loops Loop A has 35 sites, Loop B 36, and Loop C 21 and a good number of those sites sit right on the water's edge. Seventy of the sites are configured to accommodate either RVs or tents, while 22 are designated RV sites. Loop A is open seasonally from May through September; Loops B and C remain open a bit longer, from May through October. On-site amenities include showers, flush toilets, picnic shelters, paved roads that make for easy afternoon bike rides, a boat ramp for lake access, and a staffed swimming beach that operates May through September. Note that beach access carries a separate fee paid at the on-site fee collection station, and any reservation changes or cancellations must be made through Recreation.gov rather than through campground staff. The campground is a convenient base for water-focused recreation on Lake Chatuge, which boasts more than 130 miles of shoreline and ample space for boating, jet skiing, swimming and fishing; anglers and boaters can launch from the campground's ramp and shoreline fishing is also an option. Trails fanning out from the Jackrabbit Recreation Area accommodate hikers and bring mountain bikers onto roughly 14 miles of bike-friendly singletrack, while the paved loops inside the campground are friendly to casual cycling and family outings. Beyond on-site activities, nearby points of interest include the Fires Creek recreation area and seasonal events like the Georgia Mountain State Fair in late July. Access to the campground is from NC 175/Forest Road 248 just east of Hayesville and north of Hiawassee (GA), placing it within easy reach of local services while still offering a true lakeside forest setting.
