Davis Bayou Campground sits a short drive east of downtown Ocean Springs, Mississippi, within the Davis Bayou unit of Gulf Islands National Seashore. The campground offers 50 individual campsites each configured to serve both RVs and tents with electric and water hookups at every site and most sites long enough to handle rigs of 40+ feet. A single group site is available with a water hookup for parties of 10 to 40 people. Basic comforts you'll actually use are on site: flush toilets, hot showers, drinking water and a dump station, and the campground stays open for reservations year-round (check the park website or contact the park office for current fees and reservation procedures). Tall live oaks and pines shade the loops and the camp borders a saltwater marsh, so mornings and evenings are prime times for migratory bird watching and low-key picnicking beside the water. Beyond the campsite, Davis Bayou is a hub for coastal recreation. The campground is about a half-mile from the park's boat launch and provides direct access to the Davis Bayou Trail a short hike through coastal forest and across two bayous where you might spot alligators and other reptiles. The Visitor Center fishing pier is open to anglers who carry a Mississippi State Saltwater Fishing License. From here private boaters and charters head to barrier islands such as Horn, Petit Bois, and East and West Ship for beachcombing, island camping (all islands allow overnight camping except West Ship, which is day-use only), snorkeling, and shore fishing; ferries to West Ship run from Gulfport March through October (Ship Island Excursions: 228-864-1014), and the park can provide a list of approved licensed boat operators (call 228-875-9057 ext. 114). Ranger-led programs, biking, paddling, diving, and visits to nearby historic and cultural sites round out the activities available across the Gulf Islands National Seashore, making Davis Bayou a convenient base for both water-focused adventures and quieter marshland wildlife watching.
