“ We've been staying at Schoodic campgrounds since the first year it opened. Without a doubt one of, if not, the best campgrounds in the National Parks nation wide. Beautiful, quiet and what really puts it over the top is the Park staff. ”
“Beautiful location, very clean campsite, hike in was simple and peaceful. ”

Schoodic Woods sits on the quieter Schoodic Peninsula of Acadia National Park, about 1.5 miles southeast of the harbor village of Winter Harbor and roughly a 60 70 minute drive from Bar Harbor and the park's main island attractions. The campground's 90 sites are all wooded and within about a 15-minute walk of the ocean, giving campers easy access to the peninsula's six-mile one-way loop road, coastal turnouts, and the windswept rock at Schoodic Point. The peninsula has over eight miles of hiking trails and roughly eight miles of bike paths, plus scenic drives that showcase lighthouses, seabirds, and forested islands; stopping or parking outside designated pull-offs is not allowed, so plan to use the provided turnouts. Nearby resources include the Schoodic Institute education and research center and basic grocery and supply stores in Winter Harbor; Lamoine State Park is about 21 miles away for additional water recreation. The campground is entirely reservation-only sites are reservable up to 2 months in advance at 10:00am EDT and there are no first-come, first-serve options and the loops are laid out with practical, modern amenities. There are 48 sites in A-Loop, 31 in B-Loop, 2 group sites, and 9 hike-in sites; across the campground there are 38 sites designated for both RV and tent use, 41 RV-only sites, and 11 tent-only sites. Most sites (all except group and hike-in) have electrical hookups, and B-Loop sites also provide water; every site comes with a picnic table and fire ring, roads are paved, and the campground offers flush toilets, potable water, and a dump station. Note important restrictions: hike-in sites prohibit any campfire or charcoal use (petroleum-fuel stoves and grills are permitted), portable showers and toilets are not allowed, and there are no showers on the peninsula (closest showers are on Mount Desert Island). Free Island Explorer shuttle service runs on the Schoodic Peninsula from late-May to mid-October, but it does not connect to Mount Desert Island. Park entrance passes are required in addition to campsite fees (current park fees: $35 per vehicle, $30 per motorcycle, $20 per pedestrian/cyclist, or a $70 annual pass available online), and be sure to follow reservation policies: you must check in at the ranger station by 10:00am on the morning after your scheduled arrival to avoid cancellation (a missed check-in results in a $20 service fee and forfeiture of the first night); changes incur a $10 fee; same-day or day-before cancellations forfeit the first night plus a $10 fee; and early departures must be reported in person at the ranger station before 10:00am to receive any refund for remaining nights.
